About sitting

When we sit, we put more strain on our bodies than when we stand. Nevertheless, we pay scant attention to our sitting posture. This is strange because we spend long periods of time in a sitting position. Someone who has reached the age of 70 will have spent no less than half of their lives sitting down.

If we paid more attention to sitting properly, we would get more enjoyment out of it and suffer fewer physical ailments. If we want, sitting can be a complete joy again!

Effects of the wrong kind of sitting

In many countries, 80 to 90% of all adults sit incorrectly. And this in an age when we spend more and more time sitting: in the car, in the office, at the table and quite easily several hours a day at the computer or in front of the television. This can lead to health problems. ‘Sitting is the new smoking’ is a claim which is now regularly made. Healthy sitting therefore, is becoming increasingly important.

Conditions for healthy sitting

'De beste zithouding is de volgende' is een gevleugelde uitspraak. Oftewel: je kunt maar beter zo min mogelijk zitten. Als je zit, dan is het belangrijk dat je het zo goed mogelijk doet. Wanneer het lichaam zoveel mogelijk in zijn natuurlijke vorm wordt ondersteund, is dat de meest ideale zithouding. Daarnaast zorgt beweging voor een optimale voeding van de tussenwervelschijven. Kies dus voor een stoel waarin je zoveel mogelijk van houding kunt veranderen.
